Club Training Nights

At present we offer 2 club training nights at our premises in North Wales.

Tuesdays 18:00-20:00: ACT Armed Combat & Tactics

Lessons are priced at £5 for a 2 hour session.

Please phone or email in advance of first lesson.

ACT - Armed Combat and Tactics is a full contact weapon fighting system. We are a school, dedicated to teaching the practical use of both bladed and impact weapons.

Our purpose is to improve our fighting skill by practicing an effective fighting system applicable to an extensive arsenal of weapons, as well as to provide a safe ground for the testing of combative weapon skills while staying as close as possible to the realities of combat.

We incorporate techniques from : kenjutsu, escrima, boxing , Jogo do pau. The arsenal includes knife, katana, spear (Yari/Naginata), bolo (short Filipino sword), European longsword, medium staff (JO and its Portuguese version) and folding tactical baton.

Full contact sparring is an essential everyday part of our training program. Cross training with other practitioners from different schools is a very important part of our learning process.

In the world of martial arts the concept of MMA has become widely accepted. One of the central reasons for it is the quest for practicality in our endeavor as martial artists. Within the wide range of martial arts systems practiced there are two distinct categories, styles which teach and practice fighting unarmed and those which teach and practice fighting with weapons. Within the realm of weapons based systems there is a growing trend born of desire to explore our skill with weapons in a practical manner. The incorporation of weapon sparring in the learning process is a clear growing trend for many schools be it traditional ones like ninjutsu or kenjutsu or modern ones like arnis. More and more practitioners spar with their arsenal in order to improve their abilities instead of only practicing the moves. This is also how they figure out " what works best ".

That is what brings the weapon fighting closer to the concept of MMA as more practitioners are asking themselves how they would fight in the environment with few to no rules and how they would fare against a committed opponent unbound by their style limitations.

That IS the main emphasis in ACT. Full contact non sportive fighting with as few rules as possible. This approach makes us strive for maximum efficiency in use of the learned techniques. This makes the practice fighting and sparring very realistic. ACT practitioners use a wide range of accurate practice weapons that imitate the weight, feel and build of historical weapons. Unique weapon simulators are produced by ACT under advisement of collectors and historians).

The system combat style is comprised both from studying the traditional martial arts and from the personal interpretation of ACT practitioners of the techniques learned. Every technique is combat tested and every technique that worked in combat is analyzed to understand why and how it worked and what the optimal conditions to recreate the success are.

Essentially ACT is bringing the concept of MMA to the world of practicing weapon based martial arts.

We are the only European School teaching ACT at present. Check out the founders promotional video here -

Fridays 18:00-20:00: EHCG European Historical Combat Guild

Lessons are priced at £5 for a 2 hour session.

Please phone or email in advance of first lesson.

The EHCG, teaches and researches European combat. It does so based upon an understanding and application of the Priciples. These are fundamentals that govern movement in general and combat specifically, most of which are self evident and are found in most martial arts and historical combat manuals.

These have been used for over 40 years by John Waller, Guild Master and founder of the system, in the practice and teaching of Historical combat.

The Guild has Chapters in six countries, and is continuing to expand.
