This Siege crossbow was used in Europe in the XVth century. Its bulk and power, meant that it had to be brandished from a standing position.
The stock is built of hard wood with handworked floral decorations. On the back, behind the revolving nut is an all-around engraved ram's head. It hasn't a mere ornamental function; in fact the animal figures carved out in this particular position, gave the shooter a backing for better stability.
The bowstring, made of interwined hemp string, is fixed to the chamfered ends of the steel bow, which is covered in leather. The stirrup, trigger, sight and backsight are made of burnished metal.
The crossbow is equipped with a wooden bolt, fitted with a metal point and natural feather fins.

Its maximum range is about 20 mts, but this crossbow is not very accurate because it is manufactured mainly for ornamental use. Overall lenght 115 cms. Bow width 74 cms.
